Brigham and Women's Hospital (formerly Brigham and Women's Hospital) affiliated with Harvard Medical School, also known as Brigham and Women's Hospital, has a long history and is the second largest affiliated hospital of Harvard Medical School in the United States. It was formed in 1980 by the merger of three Harvard Medical School affiliated hospitals: Peter Bent Brigham Hospital (founded in 1913), Robert Blake Brigham Hospital (founded in 1914) and Boston Women's Hospital (founded in 1832). The hospital has more than 12,000 employees, including 3,000 doctors, 2,800 nurses and more than 1,000 researchers; the hospital has 793 beds, nearly 950,000 outpatient visits per year, 46,000 annual admissions, and 54,000 emergency treatments.
